Health Monitoring Systems Extends EpiCenter? Surveillance Service Coverage to 2.5 Million Nevada Residents
Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) August 27, 2008 -- Health Monitoring Systems (HMS) announced an agreement with the Nevada State Health Division that will extend the coverage of the EpiCenter surveillance service to include the 2.5 million citizens of Nevada. The adoption of EpiCenter by Nevada brings the population covered by the service across the United States to 23 million.
HMS will work with the State Health Division to connect sixty healthcare facilities, hospitals and urgent care centers, to the service.
"We are delighted to partner with the Nevada State Health Division. This relationship is particularly exciting, as it expands on the close relationship we have had with the local health department in Washoe County, Nevada." said Kevin Hutchison, HMS President and CEO.
The EpiCenter service analyzes health-related data searching for evidence of both rare and common threats to community health, such as disease outbreaks and bioterrorism. When a threat is detected, the service will automatically notify Nevada public health allowing them to take action.
Previous success working with Washoe County and the power of the new EpiCenter service were instrumental in the state's decision.
Dr. Ihsan Azzam, Nevada's state epidemiologist, explained "We were impressed by its flexibility and the possibilities it presents for future surveillance. Using EpiCenter as a service will also allow us to focus on public health issues, not on technology. With the strong recommendation of the team in Washoe County, we were convinced that this was the way to go."
